All You Need to Know about Adjusting Digital Hearing Aids

It is important to understand what is involved with adjusting digital hearing aids to achieve the optimal sound quality that a hearing aid can offer you. Different manufacturers make available different types of hearing aid programming software, and so you will need to consult with the manufacturer of your particular hearing aid model for specific details.

In general, however, you can expect that you will need to try adjusting your digital hearing aids two or three times at a minimum before you achieve the desired results. Your aid will be connected to a computer, either at a vendor's office or, in some cases, in your home, and then the hearing aid programming software will be activated. From this point, many parameters can be adjusted, including the frequency response of the hearing aid, the compression ratios and kneepoints of the aid, and the settings within the hearing aid's memories.

Hearing Aid Programming Software Can Quickly Improve Sound Quality

America Hears is the only vendor that currently makes available hearing aid programming software that you can use at home. This can make adjusting digital hearing aids easier, as there is no need to take the time to visit a vendor's office. In addition, you can attempt to recreate the situation in which you had a problem while you are making your adjustments.

However, you should always be comfortable with calling the vendor from which you bought your hearing aid if you have any questions or concerns about your adjustments. A reputable vendor will have audiologists or a hearing aid fitter available to speak to you and to make suggestions about adjusting a hearing aid. They may even be able to make their own adjustments over the Internet, which you can then download directly to your hearing aid.
