A hearing aid is essentially a small computer that receives and processes sounds for a user. And like any computer, its software is its core.
The sound processing software used in hearing aids is referred to as algorithms. Algorithms allow hearing aids to be programmed to the specific requirements of each user and adjusted as those requirements change over time.
AHI uses a proprietary version of Adaptive Dynamic Range Optimization (ADRO) digital sound processing algorithms exclusively. ADRO was designed by Peter Blamey, the physicist who developed the sound processing algorithms used in cochlear implants. Instead of using compression technology, which simply compresses sounds, ADRO continuously performs sophisticated analyses and applies fuzzy logic rules to optimize the output of hearing aids. The result is increased comfort for the user and improved speech perception in all listening environments.
Using ADRO digital sound processing instead of compression technology enables AHI hearing aids to provide naturally amplified sound. Independent studies have shown that 74% of the respondents prefer ADRO to compression because of its distinct superior sound quality and speech perception.
